Australian Sunflower kernals and oil are back!

Sunflower-CropWith its light mild taste, Sunflower oil is increasingly recognised as the new cold-pressed healthy oil in restaurants and the food industry.

Cold pressed High Oleic Sunflower oil, with its exceptional levels of mono-unsaturates (oleic acid) is ideal for cooking, frying and baking as it remains stable at high temperatures, has a high smoke point and long shelf life.

The hulled seed of the sunflower, the Sunflower kernel, acts as a functional food, by adding nutritional value to breads, muffins, crackers, cakes, biscuits and snacks. They are also make a great addition to salads, stir-fries, muesli and breakfast cereal.

They are light grey in colour with a mild nutty flavour which can be enjoyed raw or lightly roasted.

Containing around less than 1% trans-fat and low saturated fat (9%), Sunflower Oil is also known for its richness in Omega-6 poly-unsaturates and Omega-9 mono-unsaturates which benefits in the war against bad cholesterol in a healthy diet.

Sunflower oil is a product of Sunflower kernels which are also high in nutrients such as Selenium, Vitamin E, and high in Antioxidants.

Research done at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2001 found the benefits of sunflower kernels extend to protection against cardiovascular and other diseases by acting as an antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic agent.

Other benefits include anti-inflammatory effects which result in reducing symptoms of asthma, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis where free radicals and inflammation plays a role.
